Delta Blue Carbon Project
Restores mangroves to sequester CO₂, protect biodiversity, and uplift communities in Sindh Province.
The Delta Blue Carbon Project restores and protects the mangrove ecosystems of the Indus Delta in Sindh Province, Pakistan — one of the world's largest mangrove forests. Mangroves are among the most carbon-dense ecosystems on Earth, sequestering carbon in both their biomass and in the waterlogged soils beneath them (blue carbon). The project covers over 350,000 hectares of coastal and deltaic ecosystems, making it one of the world's largest blue carbon initiatives. Beyond carbon sequestration, mangroves provide critical coastal protection against storm surges and sea-level rise, support productive fisheries that sustain local livelihoods, and harbor critically endangered species including Indus River dolphins and green turtles. The project works with local fishing communities, providing alternative livelihoods and training to reduce pressure on marine resources while generating income from carbon credits.
